Improve Network Speeds

Hi guys, I will get right into it.

 

 On speed test with my Linksys router Via Cat 7 cable I am getting 150Mbps with the same cable by passing the router and going direct into the modem I am getting 545Mbps download 45 more than I pay for I have tried to see if it was wifi hogging network usage but even with wifi off it has zero change in speed so my question is: what is the best way to fix this issue, it wouldn't be one if my modem had more than one ethernet on it. Any device I could use at all? Could upgrade to a better router but the wifi I only use for my phone and its plenty fast for that.

It sounds like you already identified that your router is bottlenecking your bandwidth to around 150mbps, so unless there is some kind of hardware level bandwidth control going on (which you can check in your router settings), your only alternative is to get a more capable router or limit yourself to connecting directly to your modem and lose WiFi connectivity.

Well tinkering with ever single setting on this guy I am starting to think its probably only using 100Mbps ethernet ports. Didn't want to upgrade as the routers I have been looking at are in the 160 - 200 USD range. 

 

 Can anyone suggest a product that has okay wifi but great ethernet ports to connect 3 devices via ethernet that's not super expensive but still quality?

You can verify that by looking at connection status in Windows when connected to it. Realistically, if it only had 100mbit ports, it would be impossible to get beyond 100mbit speeds.

OMG YOU HELPED ME SOLVE IT!!! when I saw it was limited to 1Gbps I knew something was up I dug in the settings to the router changed a ton of stuff saved ran a test repeat. It was the media prioritization I had it on thinking that if someone in the house watched Netflix on the tv and I was downloading a game it would prioritize my pc over Netflix as my pc was saved in it once I turned it off boom I am now getting 495Mbps I assume loosing some speeds dude to routing to my router then the pc so case closed thank you very much!!!

Glad to hear that mate, Quality of Service (QoS/traffic prioritisation) is usually awful on most home routers, so that's what I was getting at when I mentioned router settings in my earlier post  

 

Hope that's the last of your network woes!
