Mixing different RAM size

I was thinking of buying an addition RAM for my system but the a 1 single 8GB cost 3 times as 4GB. I'm thinking of buying a single stick 4GB just to increase my memory capacity and was wondering if I could mix these two different RAM. 

I'm using Ryzen 1200 and a MSI B350M Gaming Pro

Yes. If it can be helped matching it is better but you can use two different sized sticks.

The RAM model and manufacturer is identical, which is what you want at a bare minimum. Mixing sizes isn't recommend, and could potentially cause issues. But you should be fine

Problem is that a single 8GB is so OP. Would there be any problems in my computer if I did this? Like apps crashing or BSoD?

There might be. Windows might try to load too much data to the 4 GB stick, causing issues. How many RAM slots are on your motherboard?

Oh man. There are only 2 slots on my MoBo

This is where it might be better to shell out the extra on RAM that won't cause issues. If you had 4 slots, you could get the 4 GB stick and slap it into a different colored slot, creating a new channel and therefore not causing problems. You could also purchase and test the 4 GB stick, see if it causes problems or lags Windows. If it does, then you could return it and then buy an 8 GB stick. 

 

I know RAM is expensive. When I rebuilt my PC and doubled my RAM, the same set of RAM I already had (2x8) was $100 more than when I bought it a year and a half ago. Also look at different colors, sometimes different colors can be cheaper. I had 2 black sticks already. I wanted another 2 black for matching, but they were $15 more than white. I got the white, which actually looks nice, contrasting the black.
