So I've been trying to build a new gaming PC Because My old pc I built two years ago met its end about a month ago from a thunderstorm and i'm making it an Intel Budget Build somewhat its like Budget and barely mid tier anyways, I like to livestream on mixer and Twitch and i was wondering...Is the i3 8100 capable of handling encoding and if not which i3 CL (coffee Lake) processor is capable of it?

This might not answer your question directly, however I would like to comment on this.

The new Coffee Lake chips are very nice, and I have heard from friends that the i3 8100 has similar performance to the Kaby Lake's i5.

I myself have an CL i5 8500 and it works a treat, 6 cores and 6 threads.

Please note though:

**For any CL CPU it has to be a 3xx series motherboard**.

Cheers

What games are you thinking of livestreaming? The 8100 is not at all built for it, but on less demanding games, it might work.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

Make sure you plug your pc into a good surge protector as well. It may not protect well against big direct lightning strikes, but it will definitely help for anything else.

world of Warcraft, Fortnite, The witcher 3. basically some low performance esports titles and some vivid RPG worlds and open landscapes. I'm asking if its able to livestream because When I had an fx 8320 That could do it easily but I'm switching to team blue so I'm not 100% sure if I should get an i3 if i can't stream on it. If that barely makes any sense. Also Excuse My lazy typing

i3 8100 should be ok! You have to wait a few more minutes for rendering/editing than 8400 but should work fine and games are still great on 4 cores so that's not a worry too

Main system (Mini itx 80mm)

i5-7500 | Asrock h110m | Noctua L9i | Realan H80 Case | 8GB 2400 Ram ADATA | M600 SSD | 500 GB Seagate

Other System (Laptop)

i7 3632QM | Toshiba | 8GB Corsair VS RAM | Sandisk SSD PLUS | 500GB Toshiba HDD

so the 8100 would still be able to stream or should I just bite the bullet and save for a better processor?

if you don't have one currently then yes.

I'd say no. Unless the game is pretty basic. I'd go with a R5 1600 if possible.

hmm I got alot to think about but since I do game development too it may be advantageous to get the i3 or even an i5 but since I mostly game it might be better just to go with ryzen. GAH NEW CPUs >.< I could just wait til the 2nd Gen Ryzen chips since theyre coming soon or wait for 9th gen intel if thats on the horizon
