I have a windows.old file that takes 22gb storage on my ssd. It was probably created during sysprep, but my question is if i can delete it ?

Better to run a disk clean-up and check the box for previous system installations (or something like that). Just make sure you don't want to roll back first.

Windows.old is where Windows stores the old version of the operating system. Sometimes it can be created after upgrading or installing the same operating system twice. Basically, it's for if you want to go back to the previous version of windows that was on your computer. I wouldn't get rid of it unless you need the space, but you can if you do not want to go back to your old version on windows.

It's usually created when there is a major update to windows like the Fall Creators or April window's updates.  I usually keep it around for a few days to make sure everything is working, then delete it using Disk Cleanup.

Word of advice. If you plan to delete it you won't be able to revert back to it.
