1. Budget & Location

$500 AUD

Would rather not spend all of it, but willing to.

2. Aim

Playing Vermintide 2, Doom (2016), Witcher 3, Dark Souls 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, Arma 2.

Will also probably do some editing in Adobe Premiere/After Effects and making music in FL Studio, from time to time.

3. Monitors

Currently just a 1080p/60Hz.

May upgrade to ultrawide or 144Hz in the future, but I assume that will require an upgrade of the GPU which I'm happy to keep with ATM.

4. Peripherals

Fine with what I have, but may need to buy Windows License as the OEM might be tied to some of the stock parts (as my build was from an Asus Vento A9, which is so rare I can't find a specs page for it).

5. Why are you upgrading?

Mostly I'm seeing the limitations of my CPU, especially in hordes on Vermintide 2 when it tanks the FPS down to 40. So I want to upgrade my CPU (which I'd need a new motherboard, RAM and probably PSU)

I'm willing to here upgrades of other parts excluding GPU (as I have recently bought it) as long as it fits within my budget.

Current Build

Your likely looking at a Ryzen 5 upgrade. CPU, Mothebroard, and DDR4 ram. Around $450 AUD.

Somthing like.

Is there any advantages/disadvantages I should know about comparing CPU's?

Also I can use ATX, not just mirco ATX, if there is a cheap/better motherboard out there

the i5 performs better in games and generally better in adobe compared to the ryzen cpu, so i picked it.

MATX motherboard are cheaper. I original had an ATX in the list but noticed you were using a prebuilt system with a MATX motherboard so put it down to MATX just incase your case wasnt big enough.

Generaly speaking Intel has faster core speed so is the best. BUT Ryzen is such a good bang for buck CPU and is perfectly capable gaming CPU. Infact AMD's Ryzen CPU's have made a significant dent in Intel's market share, thats how good they are. So for the budget you got, i'd highley sugest Ryzen.

So you thinking getting an SSD will be a good upgrade over the HDD I got now?

6 minutes ago, bradleyk44 said:

as far as i know all oem licenses are on the mobo so you may need a new one

I remember reading that somewhere, shame if my license is set up like that.

I'm also don't know to pick AMD or Intel, cos it basically productivity vs. game performace, and that AMD has stated it will support AM4 socket for a long time or something liek that. Could you guys give me any more pros and cons of both?

If you did intel, you will be locked into a couple generations but with AMD you technically won't need to upgrade the mobo anytime soon but evidently the manufactures are having problems supporting all the chips AMD is launching on the am4 socket. Like the bios storage isn't big enough to support code for a lot of cpu families. Heres a link to what i'm talking about.

As far as intel vs amd. Right now intel is slightly faster is most applications.

the SSD will be much faster than a HDD, so yes. try activating the key before you go out and buy a new one.

don't bother with hybrids, they just end up running as slow as a HDD except for frequently used programs. an SSD would be better since you already have a 500gb HDD. get a CX450/M instead.

He only said to get Hybrid as my HDD might fail soon

why? just wait and monitor the drive once in a while, replace it with another HDD when it starts to fail.

How would i go about monitoring it?

Basically just when using it, see if it acts weird in any ways like missing folders, long access time for the drive, and other things that just seem off when using it normally.

Just realised you meant a PSU here, care to explain why this one over the one he chose?

the MWE isn't very good, the CX is much better.
