I had my ryzen5 2600X running very smoothly this morning but after I installed the Hyper 212 Led CPU cooler to replace the stock cooler, my nightmare began.

Ever since I changed into the Hyper 212 cooler, I have my gaming FPS at 30-40 lower than usual. For example, I was able to play League of Legends at around 120-150 FPS but now I only get 70-90 FPS.

{CPU temp is fluctuating at 34 to 58 Celsius, GPU is also lower than 60 Celsius while gaming.} < seem to be normal

I then changed back my CPU stock cooler and also unplugged and plugged my memory sticks and the graphics card back on but nothing was fixed.

I think the problem seem to be too much thermal paste was applied. I used the whole pack of thermal paste that came with the Hyper 212 cooler.

What might have caused this event?

I am sure that my graphics card driver is up to date.

CPU: Ryzen5 2600X

hng... ebbe.... wha? the whole package...?!

Usually you only put a pea size drop in the middle, or spread out a pea sized blob on the cpu...

Too much thermal compound is nearly as bad as none at all.

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

How ever, the CPU temp that shows up on my monitor software seem to be normal though.

Anyways, it seems to be the only cause. I will wipe it all out and then apply it one more time when I buy a new stick of paste tomorrow

very true also make sure when the cooler is off, their is no wiggling with cpu cooler bracket and mobo. Sounds like too much paste, and or not good contact with cooler.

your safe once maybe twice able to remove cooler and re apply cooler using this paste since its so new, and only for a day or two. This way you can see now if this is the issue too. You dont need to remove it all, just make sure cooler is making good contact.

Hello, I just wiped a lot of the paste away and I saw some excess paste actually spilled beyond the cpu surface, some of them dripped to the side of CPU but i was able to wipe most of it away. FPS when back to normal right now. Thank you so much. with the remaining paste I have left ( a very thin layer), how long can it last for? Should I reapply it? Because I wiped it with tissue paper only, I don't know if I left any dust or any tissue fragment on the cpu surface.
