i7-4770

Hi all,

I have an i7-4770 lying around and I am trying to figure out what to do with it.

Basically, I want to build a hackintosh and can't decide if I want to make it with 8th gen intel CPUs or stick with the 4770 I already have.

From what I see, selling the 4770 will get me about $150 USD which could cover the cost of an i3-8350 or an i5 8xxx (if I save a little more after selling).

Either way I need a new motherboard so that's kind of a moot point to me.

But what would you do? Sell the 4770 and get an 8th gen CPU, or just build with the 4770?

Just a heads up... hackintosh is against Apple's ToS and this website respects every major brand ToS meaning that any discussion whatsoever around this is against the rules.

Either way lets say you're just meaning to build a new PC, since you have to spend money on motherboard either ways and the i5 8400 is a lot better CPU I'd try selling the i7 4770 in order to get the i5 along side a b360.

Does it matter that I will be dual booting? One partition for windows and one for MacOS

Didn't know about the ToS violation... :o

Every Apple OS can only run on hardware sold directly by Apple, run any Apple OS in a hardware not manufactured and sold by Apple is against the terms of service of the OS.

It does not matter if you're dual, triple booting or any thing.

i7 4770 is fairly capable. With 750+ Multicore R15 Score and 410ish CPuz single core score, I think it will work well for you. Keep it!

i7 7700: Roughly 900ish R15 MC score and 440 Cpuz SC(similar to 8400)

^

Not much of a difference.

Main system (Mini itx 80mm)

i5-7500 | Asrock h110m | Noctua L9i | Realan H80 Case | 8GB 2400 Ram ADATA | M600 SSD | 500 GB Seagate

Other System (Laptop)

i7 3632QM | Toshiba | 8GB Corsair VS RAM | Sandisk SSD PLUS | 500GB Toshiba HDD
