Hello,

I have mild to noticeable fps issues in games for the specs of my computer.

I severely upgraded my computer to fix these fps issues, but my fps is still nearly identical in all those games.

Benchmarking does show a severe increase in performance, which doesn't reflect back in games.

My benchmark: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/26999462

I am gonna take Overwatch as example game:

My fps ranges from 120 min to 200 max on all max settings in 1440p. (It's big fights where it drops down to below my refresh rate, which are the most important moments)

Videos and benchmarks of people with my CPU + GPU show that fps shouldnt ever drop below 144 and should be stable at around 200.

I can list multiple games that don't perform as people benchmark the same way.

For troubleshooting I have done so much, that listing all of it would make it TL;DR.

Some noteworthy things are: Full windows reset. Installation of newest drivers. Buying new high end components.

My specs are as follows:

Windows 10 64bit.

GPU: Asus Strix gtx1080 ti OC
CPU: intel i7 8700k           (Upgraded from i7 4790k)

Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212X

RAM: Corsair DDR4 8GB - 3000mhz x2           (Upgraded from 8GB DDR3 1500mhz x2)
Motherboard: ASRock Z370 Extreme4              (Upgraded with my new CPU from an incompatible Mobo)
PSU: Corsair RM650x (650 Watts)

SSD/HDD: Windows OS: 120GB Samsung 850 EVO. Other: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO, Seagate Barracuda 2000GB HDD.

Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU (1440p, 144hz, IPS, GSync)

Bios version: Stock. I tried updating it, but the instant flash was stuck at 0% and I have backed off from trying in fear.

I have a couple of ideas, however I'm uncertain how big they'd impact fps.
1. Did you place your RAM in right slots for dual channel mode?
2. I know you have a 212, but is your 8700K slowing down to avoid thermal limits?
3. With that AsRock Mobo (I have the Z270 version) did you enable ssd mode in your bios?

1. My RAM is in slot 2 and 4 (not 1 and 3 because my cooling blocks slot 1)

2. On AIDA64 test, my cpu didnt pass 90 degrees celcius on a single core and had 0% throttling. (On Overwatch it remains rather steadily at 50 degrees celcius)

3. I have read through my mobo settings but have not seen that mode. Will look into it.

UPDATE:

I have been playing and testing around. I have tried Overclocking my CPU while staying in safe temperatures and noticed NO performance increase. Same case for RAM.

Then I tried Overclocking my GPU and this is where things got interesting. After applying a stable overclock profile, my performance dropped severely. Even going back to my default profile does not fix this performance reduction until restarting my computer.

I have thus come to the conclusion that it is likely my gtx 1080 ti that is causing my fps in games to not be as high as they should be, by finding out that overclocking in any way reduces perfomance badly.

But what can I do to increase performance instead? My default clocks aren't giving me good performance and overclocking makes it severely worse.
