Is it a good time to buy a new graphics card?

Was thinking of changing my gpu. Currently using a Gigabyte G1 GTX1060 3GB. Looking for a GTX1080 card for future upgrade to 2k or 4k gaming. My situation now is

-cryptocurrency is not so popular anymore

-my countries sales tax was just abolished so things like pc parts are significantly cheaper

But I'm also worried that when 1100 series or volta which will come out soon will lower prices, making it unwise for me to upgrade now.

someone... please...

The new gpu series won't come out this summer.  It will be very likely around this christmas or late fall because nvidia has no market motivators to release a new gpu series.  Get a 1080 for $550 usd or wait a month and try and find a 1080ti for msrp.

Try using the PSU Tier List!

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4, 2x8gb DDR4

Storage: 1tb nvme ssd

GPU: gtx 3080

Monitor: 23.8" Dell S2417DG 144hz g-sync 1440p + 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: ducky one I | I SF

Mouse: gpro wireless | glorious model o2 wireless

Sound : beyerdynamic 1990 pro | Monoprice liquid spark (amp) + topping d10 (dac)

Prices are $750-$850 so if you wait a bit longer, I'd just guess a month, prices might decrease by $50 or more. EDIT: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#X=0,81154&c=390 prices are in a downward trend right now and if you wait some more they will probably decrease more.

prices will not go bellow MSRP though...unless there is a special deal of some sort...at least until new cards are released...and there are plenty of cards around or at MSRP right now...so i'd say yeah it's not a bad time to buy a card.

True, but they will get closer than $100 above msrp.  I wouldn't say it's a bad time to get a gpu if prices can't fall any more, but if you want max performance, why not wait to see if the 1080ti will fall more.

1080ti is THE one that is still more expensive i admit but i will say this: it's not unusual to see the top end cards being overpriced...and stay that way...IMHO the 1080ti will not get any cheaper...simply because it's the best, it has no competition, and they can charge more and still move them out.

I agree.  The 1080 is a much better buy right now, it's $50 under msrp.

I wouldn't 4k game on that, but 1440p would be great with a 1080, that's probably a better buy imo.

4K gaming is fine (reduced settings), though high refresh gaming is somehow limited because the CPU cannot overclock too high with that cooler. Single core performance is very important in high refresh rate gaming.

I know this is a US site and US price, but I have almost your exact build and use this MSI GTX 1080 Duke with a modest overclock and it works wonders for 2k/4k gaming. I run every game maxed out at 1440p/60fps (no high refresh monitor) and some games at 4k, just usually have to turn down some settings and turn off AA to get 60fps.
