Alright I hope yall are ready for some sketchiness. Ive got an old Macbook Pro A1229 that I cant get anything made by Apple installed on it with the resources available to me. (A OSX Yosemity Recovery Disk, a OSX 10.4.11 Disk, and the internet). I wouldnt mind getting some version of OSX installed, but in reality I would be happy with Linux or Windows (I have both of those available to me). Here are the following things that happen with my various install things

Yosemite Recovery- Goes into the recovery mode, You can erase the disks and all that fun stuff. But when you click install it asks you to verify your apple ID or something, which I do, and then it says 'Temporarily Unavailable'.

OSX 10.4.11- Just says you need to restart your Mac

Idk what im supposed to get from the internet

Linux- I have both Mint and Ubuntu, neither work. They just spit out 3 lines of something in the terminal.

Windows- A USB install wont even show up, and a disk just goes into some text onscreen that says something about picking a disk except it wont let you do anything

Thoughts so I dont have a dead laptop?

Breaking things 1 day at a time

Windows cannot be installed from USB on Macs with optical drives. Can't say anything about Linux in this case as I've never used Linux on a Mac. And the prompt from the Windows CD is due to the firmware having a fit with that disc. It behaves the same on machines with 32-bit EFI firmware when trying to boot 64-bit Windows and there's a way to get around it but I'd have to look that up as it's been a long time.

For macOS you'll need a second Mac to make a USB installer and install that way. By the way, if it still has 2GB of RAM don't touch anything beyond 10.9 Mavericks as it'll run like ass.

There are custom linux distros set up to install on macbooks. I have one, works great.
