Gpu buzz

Go to solution Solved by shadowbutt7,

So i bought a power supply about 2 months ago and the gpu buzz is gone. basically for anyone with the same problem. its the power supply. bought a gold plus psu and the GPU buzz is completely gone so yeah

Hey. I just recently got my hands on the galax gtx 1070 sniper white. But I have noticed it buzzez really loudly under load. But when I load something in (say a car from beamng.drive) the buzz with stop. Once the car has loaded in, the buzzing will start again

im pretty sure it’s coil whine, but I would like to get a second opinion.

That indeed seems like plain old coil while to me. If you still have warranty for your 1070, you might try to RMA the graphics card. Hiwever, I doubt any company will RMA for coil whine.

A lot of time, coil whine will go ahead away after heavy benchmarking or stressful game play, and sometimes it can be stopped with better power supply (not saying the one you have is bad) and sometimes it never goes away at all.

As I said though, I doubt they will RMA for coil whine unless it was crazy severe. However, you could always try :-)

My GPU actually had the same problem and Gigabyte accepted the RMA. I never bothered sending it in though as I didn't feel like spending money on something that I couldn't hear when audio was playing anyway.

True, it might be unhearable when audio is masking it. However, my OCD would drive my crazy though ;-)

Joking aside, depending on where you live, RMA might be totally free for you.

yeah that makes sense. my power supply is some really old thermaltake one that i got for free off a friend. i think i'm going to buy a new modular one. if that does anything it would be awesome, but if it doesn't oh well.

What Thermaltake power supply do you have?

And what are your other components of your system? That way we'll be able to advise you with a PSU power output that will be sufficient for your PC.

When buying a new PSU: I would suggest buying a power supply from the top two tiers of the following list.

My favourites are EVGA and Corsair. So for example, if you need a 550 W PSU, you could get an EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 or a Corsair RM550.

However, any PSU from the top two tiers are perfectly fine.

Righto, cheers for the recommendations. they look mint and should do the job a bit better. im not entirley sure what power supply it is. but i think it might be this one.

The Thermaltake Litepower PSUs are the second to worst tiered power supplies that you can buy.

Often, changing your PSU to a better one can solve coil whine. If you - for some reason - have a better PSU lying around (or you can borrow one from a friend) I would suggest trying that better power supply with your ocmputer. Perhaps you could give this a try?
