Hard Drive Partition Question

abit of a weird question.

 

im trying to work out when you partition your hard drive what part of the drive does the data write to?

 

so if i had a 2TB HD, and partitioned it to 2 lots of 1TB

 

Partition 1 - 1TB

Partition 2 - 1TB

 

im assuming your harddrive will start writing from the outside in, so the 'partition 2' will that start writing in the middle ish of the drive?

 

or does the drive just know when you partition it that it can only use 1TB, no matter where it is on the disk?
