Trigger snipping tool by print screen key

Go to solution Solved by PusheenKill,

I used to use the snipping tool to take screenshots, but then I discovered Greenshot. It has so many option, and you can set it to use the print screen key, as well as other variations of it like Ctrl+Prt.Sc for capturing only the window. There might be other programs to do it, but this is the one I know. If you take screenshots often, I would recommend anything over snipping tool.

As far as I'm aware, that's not possible without installing special software.

However, using Windows 10, 'Win'+ 'PrtScrn' will do a full shot and save it to your pictures folder. Also, 'Ctrl' + 'PrtScrn' will let you make a selection first.

System hot keys must be in the following format:

'Ctrl' + 'Alt' + 'Another key'

Not all keys may be used as this last 'Another key', unfortunately 'Print Screen' isn't one of them.

So simply experiment to find what works best for you. You could use for example 'Ctrl' + 'Alt' + 'p'

Indeed, there are far better programs that are more specialised in taking screenshots.

@Niccolo, if you regularly take screenshots, you should look into that.

I made an autohotkey script that does just that (except it uses the “Pause Break key. In the file, change “Pause” to “PrintScreen”) a few months ago. It’s very simple and works every time. (I suggest enabling it to run at startup)

Here’s my github:
