I've recently found out that playing on my laptop while plugged in is actually safe and it boosts my fps so why not? This seems to have fixed my issue with low fps, but a new problem arises which is the temperature. Whenever I'm playing, my CPU temps rise at about 70-75C while my GPU is at 90-95C and I believe that is the maximum temperature that my CPU and GPU can handle? But I'm not really sure and I would appreciate any help I can get.

the laptop fan and internals could be full of dust :/ how old is the laptop? edit: also which laptop is it?

Those cpu temps are fine a lil hot but far off thermal throttling, the GPU temps are very hot, perhaps undervolt the card, there are many tutorials on doing this.

I'm gonna try that later and check if there are any changes on the temperature.

My laptop is 2 months old and it is an ASUS X570UD. I don't really know how to open my laptop without accidentally damaging anything inside, and it seems that it is actually quite tricky to open this up because when I upgraded my RAM, the guy who disassembled it had a hard time so I think I'm not that qualified to do that by myself.

yup, get the dust outta there. If you havent dusted it, it would help you significantly.

as far as I know, 70~75 CPU temp sounds fine if it is an intel chip. They can withstand until 105. Your GPU is quite high tho. They also do have a high thermal tolerance but it needs to be brought down to high 80s imo.

Your laptop probably gives you a higher performance because of the power management setting. You can set this in windows control panel.

Since it is laptop, obviously you need to get a good laptop cooler. Depending on the position of your laptops, fan intake, find a cooler that blows air in the same direction and preferably made out of aluminum.

GPU: Gigabyte G1 1080 GTX | Case: Prodigy ITX | Fans: NH-A14, (exhaust) NH-A12, (intake) NH-A20 (intake)

My friend gave me his cooler since he's not using it anymore, but that doesn't seem to help my situation.

The thing is I have no clue on how to disassemble my laptop to clean the fan. Any other ideas on how I can do this?

given that the cooler does work, if it is not helping your laptop lower temps then it means that your laptop is clogged with dust.

youtube it bro! Or google search. I mean, disasembling is not too hard imo. Find a nice open spot, buy a can of compressed air and let it rip.

70 to 75 °C for the CPU is still OK, although it is near the upper limit of what I would consider "comfortable".

90 to 95 °C for the GPU is kind of hot. That's not OK.

Since it's a new laptop (2 months old), it would surprise me that there is a lot ot dust accumulation inside. I highly doubt it.

To remove possible dust build-up, it is ofter sufficient to simply remote tha back/bottom plate of the laptop (often held by a few screws). Afterwards you can blow away the dust with some compressed air. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE LAPTOP AND THAT IT IS TURNED OFF!

However, where do you live? Due to the warm temperatures in Europe, your room migh be very hot and therefore the cooling of your laptop is less efficient.

Oops, I missed that part. Corazza is right. Its not the dust.

My new hunch, reapply thermal paste. But this is gonna be pretty risky. Take it to a local computer shop.

wonder if msi afterburning would control a laptops fan could also download it to see what the fans usage is at and make a fan profile if its to low

i tried it on my friends laptop, it's not possible to control the laptops' internal fan :(

I live in the Philippines and yeah most of the times my room's fairly hot. Damn if only I could play in a large freezer that would be great.

I've tried undervolting with msi afterburner, but I'm probably not doing it right and I just can't understand some guides on how to undervolt.

I don't know if I successfully undervolted my GPU but after tweaking around the Voltage/Frequency Curve Editor in MSI AB, My GPU temp was at constant temperature of 70-76C and my CPU's about 63-66C. Is that good? Or does it need to be lowered down?

I would consider those temperatures perfectly fine. Especially when considering you’re located in the Philippines.

Make sure you run thorough tests to make sure that the system is stable. CPU and GPU are your main concerns here.

That's a relief then :D I was starting to lose hope until today hahaha. And what kind of tests should I do? Need to make sure now.

undervolting affects your performance, try to find the sweet spot, where the fps isn't much lower but temps aren't too high, you might want to give it a tiny overclock if you're getting way lesser fps. don't do overclocking unless you need to, im not sure how safe it is on a laptop, i overclock on pc alot and it's competely safe. again idk about laptop :/ good luck! try hitting the sweet spot :)

I think I've hit the sweet spot, but I'm gonna try tweaking it a little bit more to see if it gets better than the settings that I had. :)

What settings have you dialed your GPU at? And CPU?

My CPU temp is fine at around 60-69C and my GPU's at 75-80C(not entirely sure if this one's safe.. probably?). I take back what I said about hitting the sweet spot hahaha.

I don't know if this is the settings you're talking about.

Yeah. Before undervolting, my max temp on my GPU was at 93C.

Than you're perfectly fine. 75 to 80 degrees Celcius is nothing to worry about, especially if you consider the outside/room temperature to be above 30 °C. (Thermodynamics is a b*tch ;))
