Perfcap Pwr - 54% TDP - 970

Craps

Thanks in advance if anyone has any solution to my issue.

The PerfCap reason on my card is PWR, which I understand is fairly common. What I don't understand is the power consumption hovers around 54%. I would imagine that the card shouldn't be limited by Pwr, when it's drawing half of what it should be able to.

Do I need to upgrade my PSU? It's an overkill 1200W 80+Gold.

Have you changed the card BIOS or OC settings?

I haven't changed any settings and I don't know how to change the BIOS.

open MSI afterburner and set the power % to 100 (or as high as it'll go if you prefer).

If it's like that on desktop, I think you got a mining operation working in the background...

I'm sorry, what? Why would that mess with the power draw shown?

Edit: To clarify, I don't have a mining operation as far as I'm aware. There might be a virus, but I scan my PC regularly.

Edit2: I have a game open for both of the screenshots I posted if that's what you mean,

perf cap still shouldn't be limited by power, especially at 54%, when it's set to 110%.

crank your voltage maybe?

How do I crank my voltage?

Not sure how to decipher my userbenchmark score, but I think it's bad.

Edit: GPU-Z said my TDP went up to 70% ish during the test and game a Vrel VOP PerfCap reason

Vrel? do you have a loose wire somewhere?

the vertical slider under the word VOLTAGE on the upper right of XOC, give it a couple dozen or so mV, or just give it everything it'll take.

I don't think so. Do you think I should buy a new cable for my PSU to Gfx card?

not yet, check the wires for loose or poor connections. you might want to take the card out and inspect the PCB under the heat sink.

The top pic is what I'm plugging into the PSU and the bottom goes in the video card. The cables didn't look loose.

I meant something is using your GPU for something.
And if it's like that in desktop, you progably got a miner farming your GPU.
Check task manager and "kill" process that uses CPU the most.

Also, You didn't specify if it's like that in-game or desktop only.

It goes to idle when on desktop.

So your gpu usage is all up but that would be weird for a 970 and your ingame performance is bad sounds like a cpu bottlneck to me or a miner (had the same issue) have you noticed any suspicious high temps or taskmanager that sows gpu 100% load? Or has your cpu been showing weird stuff (try to check every core specifc do you have high core times for cpu 0?)

I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the gfx card.

How would I check if it's a miner?

I see okay I suppose you download some benchmarking software (heaven) an have taskmanager or HWmonitor in the back running (or on an other screen) and try to see if it really is the gpu bottlenecking (does this issue accure on every game and benchmark?

Be aware you can make yourself think that there is a miner while it can be a total different issue so make sure to maybe send a picture of your taskmanager whilst ingame maybe i’ll be able to help you more with that

If the cable is shit you usually get nothing and the pc will start and show a little brink of light and then stop instantly (i have had this issue in the past) or the cable is good or it is sick and the pc doesn’t boot

You can see that it is a miner if your gpu usage is very high when in game if ou send a screen or a photo of your task manager and tell me what game you are running I can make a wild gues what creature is in your pc xD;)
