CPU Core Speed drops whenever I'm playing games

I've never had this problem until 2 days ago. I've spent my whole 2 days searching for fixes and stuff that I could do to fix this problem like changing something in the power management settings, unparking cores, using throttlingstop, and some options in the BIOS like cpu voltage thingy or cpu speed but unfortunately, I don't have all of those options in my BIOS. When at idle, my processor runs at about 1.8 GHz. When I try to play games, it drops at about 400 MHz which is really frustrating cause I can't even play the game! I'm using an ASUS X570UD laptop and my processor is Intel Core i7-8550U @ 1.80GHz.

I would appreciate every help that you might offer and hopefully it would solve my problem.

when you play games it drops to 0.4 GHz?  have the same CPU in an xps 13 and it hovers between 3 and 3.3GHz while playing games..

Sounds like thermal throttling to me. What are the temps like when you're gaming? Does it instantly drop or does it spike up to boost clock then drop soon after?

When you play:

are you plugged in to power?
what are the temperatures on your CPU, GPU, etc like?
how many cores are in use?

The temp doesn't really spike up a lot. My average temp is around 43-48C. And no, I don't play when I'm charging the laptop.

Make sure your power settings are set to high performance.

Try playing while plugged in.

My power settings are set to high performance but that doesn't seem to fix it. I have tried playing while plugged in and well of course it eliminates the problems, but is it safe to playing while plugged in and fully charged? I've looked this up before and they said it is recommended to play while plugged in so as to not damage the battery. Is it true though?

You should play while plugged in and on high performance. That'll ensure you're getting the best performance. Your battery will be fine as long as it's not plugged in 24/7.

I've actually started playing while plugged in since my last post. I had another problem which I've resolved recently which is the temperature going bonkers. I can finally play properly without any issues of thermal throttling or cpu core speed drastically dropping. :) I appreciate all the help that you've given me :D
