HD598SR + Maximus X Hero. Do I need a DAC/AMP?

Hey LTT Forum,

 

I'm looking at purchasing a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 SR headphones for home audio / pc use.  I'm wondering if my onboard audio will be good enough to drive these headphones.  When looking at the ASUS website, for the X Hero, there isn't specifics on the audio drivers.  As far as DAC/AMP combos are concerned I was considering the Fiio E10K however I'm not sure if it's completely necessary at this point.  Any advice or guidance is appreciated.

That's all I'm looking for?  I'll know without a doubt that my board is under powered for the headphones if I hear a hiss?

Pretty much. If you hear there's a hiss before its loud enough to your liking, sure. I mean, there's this guide:
