ASUS MAXIMUS X NO POST

Hello,

Recently bought a new motherboard as I spilled water on my old PC (yes I know) and upon the cleaning process I bent a motherboard pin.

Anyway, brand new ASUS MAXIMUS X board, I7 6700K, Corsair Vengeance Memory

Plugging everything in and pressuring power the PC kind of starts for about .5 seconds and then powers off. If I unplug the 8pin CPU connector the PC will atleast turn on all the fans etc.

No beep code, no QCODE. I've tried with both sticks of memory.

I think the CPU is dead but i'm unsure.

Z370 motherboards are for 8th gen intel cpu's. Skylake only works with z170 or z270.

Crap you gotta be kidding me!

Well that would certainly explain why it isn't working then... I thought LGA1151 was LGA1151.

Can you recommend a board for the 6700K then and i'll send this one back to Amazon.

But i'm unsure about the 'Whetstone' is that the motherboard + a mousepad? Or is that simply a mousepad

The socket is the same but the pin layout is different, it's technically 1151 v2 which only works with 8th gen.

What is your budget, which maximus board did you have? You could just get the same, but the z270 version.

That's a great price. It's the motherboard + a mousepad as a bonus. Considering that the z270 version costs almost double that, I would personally go for this z170 one you linked.
