I think I have a virus.

peep

So I think I got a virus from downloading a torrent, I get this weird program in the back of my PC, its called 'mpatzums' and it plays really loud and impromptu ads in the background, I can stop it from playing but it's extremely repetitive. I already scanned and removed threats with bitdefender, so I don't know what the issue is.

I also have two issues with google chrome that only started after I downloaded the torrent, when I click on a link that someone has sent me (say for instance thru discord) it will load an entirely new google chrome application and not load anything, it'll just be the google chrome search bar. Lastly,  whenever I search anything in google chrome, it cuts to yahoo search engine, when I changed it already in google chrome settings...

Any help is appreciated greatly, thank you!

Join the Appleitionist cause! See spoiler below for answers to common questions that shouldn't be common!

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

You can try malwarebytes like LtStaffel suggested but honestly..

if it's this bad, I'd reinstall windows from scratch,

because you can never be sure you got rid of it completely until you do that.

Even that's not a guarantee anymore apparently with some viruses.

For future reference, stay the heck away from torrents.

Torrent sites are notorious for giving people viruses and really bad ones at that.

Thepiratebay for example will give you a mining bug that'll hijack your computer to mine bitcoin and it's really hard to get rid of from what I hear.
