I just wanna keep it short.

My friend wants to get a new pc for a total of 3k including peripherals( 144hzmonitor+4k monitor and keyboard) so I looked for him at the price range of 2.4k for a Pre-Built since he is not great with building things. I found 2 on Newegg, which one should be the best? or if anyone has a different suggestion please tell me.

https://www.newegg.com/global/nl/Product/Product.aspx?item=9SIABFS5VX7277 i9 7900x and 1080.

He wants to use it for especially gaming and maybe video editing/recording in the future. as I said he needs 2 monitors(144hz and 4k) and a keyboard.

Thanks!

Buy the one with the i9 7900x and the GTX 1080 because it should outperform the one with the 8700K and the GTX 1070 Ti in both video editing and maybe gaming (depending on the clock speed of the i9)

GPU prices are going down - prebuilts aren't as relevant anymore. If he just wants a nice computer experience, no hassle involved I can understand him - but usually with a love for PC comes a love for PC hardware. Just like guitar players love to tweak their equipment to maximise the potention, really.

Both those are quite expensive. For those prices he could easily build a better system himself if he cared to hunt for hardware sales for a small amount of time.

The first has less RAM, a worse CPU (at stock speeds, for gaming) but a slightly better GPU, and is likely more upgrade friendly in the future.

Good luck upgrading the second system. It's also quite ugly in my opinion. Way too gamer-y in a bad way.

If I had to choose, I'd go with the first, but the 8700K likely handles gaming better than the 7900X unless overclocked.

Main rig: i7 8086K // EVGA Z370 Micro // 16GB Gskill TridentZ 3200Mhz CL14 // Sapphire Pulse RX 7800XT// a variety of noctua cooling // Corsair RM750x v2 //  Fractal Meshify C

Secondary rig: R5 3600 // MSI B450i Gaming Plus // 16GB Gskill FlareX 3200CL14 // MSI GTX 1080ti Gaming X // Cooler Master V650 // Fractal Meshify C

Audio setup: Audient iD4 // Adam A7X // Sennheiser HD 650 // Sennheiser HD 25-II // Audio Technica M50x // Sennheiser Momentum 4

Yes single thread wise the i9 7900X really is an i7 6700K so games that are optimized for quad-core will take better advantage of the i7 8700K and then there's also Ring Bus vs Mesh, the i7 8700K has a much lower latency per core which adds performance in gaming loads... such extra performance is not present on the i9.

All in all though both should game pretty much the same... going for the i9 over the i7 matters mostly on how much of a real productivity work load OP's planning on throw at the system.

Build the PC for him and charge him $50.

He pays less than a prebuilt, you earn some money. Win-win

building it yourself wouldn't save that much if u pay 2.2k for the 7900x and a 1080 but me I would look for some think with a cheaper cpu and go for a 1080ti if its more for gaming , so me I would save the money on buying the 7900x and get the ti instead but thats just me. or just add the 300 or so for the 1080ti.
