I have a pretty old Acer aspire from 2011 and I have connected my 5.1 receiver to it but the sound cuts out for a second all the time. It happens completely randomly and I'm running out of ideas. I have tried googling the issue and tried almost everything without any luck. For example I reinstalled the drivers, swapped ram, stress tested to see if it's related to high cpu usage, checked the cables, changed output format etc. There is no problems at all when I have my ps3 connected to it so it shouldn't be the receiver. This problems only happens with the digital output, headphone jack is fine. Any suggestions?

Edit: Seems it cuts out way more when watching a movie. The cpu usage is usually at 100% then. But the problem is still there even with low cpu usage.

Download LatencyMon at http://www.resplendence.com/download/LatencyMon.exe and check if there is any latency while playing your audio. (Have LatencyMon open and monitoring while your audio is playing, let it run for 5 or 10 minutes or so)

Also check your Optical cable as some cables made my audio crackle and stutter with my speakers. I got a high quality one and that solved the problem. Also use a sample rate under 96000 because optical can't really handle 96000 and higher very well. Use 44100 at 24 bit or 16 bit and see if that works. Make sure your PC volume is at 100% max and use your receiver to control volume.

Hope this helps :)

This is what I got. I'm pretty sure the "throttling problem" came up because the cpu is maxed out while watching the movie.

There were dropouts in both (receiver doesn't show dolby digital while that happens). Just trying to give more details :D

Latencies with music

Latencies with a movie

I could buy a new cable but the current works just fine on my ps3 so idk.
