USB Adapter for 3.5" HDD

Olaf6541

Hi all,

I have a problem with my 3.5" hard drive which is connected with an Ewent wall powered usb 3.0 adapter to my laptop (windows 8.1).

The drive shows up in device manager but it is listed there as a 'ST1000DM003 1ER162 scsi drive device'.

It used to work normally as an usb device but it somehow changed...

Things I have tried so far:

- All usb (2.0 and 3.0) ports on my laptop

- Assigning letter/space to the drive via Disk Manager (upon opening Disk Manager it asks for initialising of the disk, which gives me a 'unrecoverable hardware error' when I try to)

- Assigning letter/space to the drive via diskpart (results in similar error)

- Deleting the driver in device manager (does not seem to do anything, after refreshing device manager it shows up again)

- Deleting the driver and rebooting (same as above)

- Assigning the 'USB mass storage' driver (does not seems to be available, just 'disk station' and 'optical station')

- Using different hard drives (two other WD drives show up under the st1000's name in device manager)

- Using different computer (same issue on win10)

Running out of options so is anyone able to help me?
