Hello everyone!

I hope I am posting in the right section as this is my first post on this forum.

I'm also at my first PC build and I probably should have gone for simpler components, less RGB but...2018... why even bother building one if there isn't RGB, right?

So here it comes!

I am using the CoolerMaster Cosmo c700p for the case and the ASUS ROG STRIX z370-e for the motherboard.

The case has, on the front I/O panel, two buttons, one for RGB control, one for fan control.

There are 3 options for the RGB control:

  • Cycle - goes through all the colors
  • Static - you select one color and it sticks to it
  • M/B - you control the color by software - I used Aura Sync to try and get a nice effect

What happens is ...the M/B option acts funny... I have tried calibrating via AURA SYNC- red works okay, green works okay but when 'blue' comes up, the case actually lights up in purple.

Also, I have tried some breathing effects selecting blue for the color. When it "breathes in", the case goes blue but when it "breathes out" the case turns red, instead of turning completely off.

I was thinking to purchase a random RGB strip just to test whether the MB is faulty or the case(the rgbs on it) is but maybe someone can recommend a different troubleshooting option.

To be noted- one of the LEDs on the front panel(the ones indicating the fan speeds) is faulty. I have emailed support and they said they would send over a replacement for the whole front I/O.

Just saying that.. I don't know how their assembly process goes or how to properly troubleshoot an RGB strip for that matter xD.. but there is a possibility that they made some mistakes when putting the case together.

All colors work fine when I cycle through them by using the other two options (Cycle, Static).

So maybe it's the little control hub for the case fans and RGB.. or the motherboard rgb header?

The system works perfectly otherwise. No issues at all with any other component or software.

For the software, I am using Corsair's Utility Engine...software, don't remember what it's called and the ASUS Aura Sync.

Other components:

  • Intel i7-8700k
  • Corsair Vengeance RGB ram
  • Corsair H115i pro AIO cpu cooler (rgb too)
  • Samsung 960 PRO nvme ssd - no rgb here :( haha

What could be the cause of this?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I don't know the cause of this problem, it could be some compatibility issues since the RGB market is very segregrated into prorprietary systems.

According to my guide here...

... I recommend you purchase the Coolermaster RGB controller that can be software-controlled.
However, I inferred you use corsair fans in your system, so what you could also purchase is this little thing here

It's molex powered and costs only 5$, I use it for my H500P Mesh. I did not want to spend 30$ on the RGB controller since I use the commander pro for my fans

Thanks for the reply.

I was trying to figure this out without spending more at the moment.

Also trying to understand why it acts that way.
