Afternoon,

So my main pc that I game on is the one in the living room no the telly. It's neatly hidden away in a unit and I just open the door when having a "session".

However the wife has started using it to watch programs from "Disney Life" for the kids during the day, as it needs to be run from a browser, or mobile app. No Xbox one yet boo :(. Now my rig is no monster but it's overkill to the extreme for that sort of usage. This is all of terms of the amount of energy being used.

So it got me thinking what's the cheapest, smallest most power efficient way of having a media pc the wife can use EASILY. One thing I was thinking was some sort of thin client machine. Like those WYSE machines. Now the ones we have at work have enough "oomph" to play most vids of the net so I think the performance should be fine. I also know they are fairly efficient and ours even have a slot inside for a drive to be installed.

what I am wondering though is, will I actually be able to run a OS from it directly? It doesn't have to be windows, but it does have to run Chrome.

whaddya think?

Depending on the wyse machine, they can often only work as a vmware horizon connection. They can't run any programs and just recive a signal from a server.

Id look at something liek this instead. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-OptiPlex-3020M-Micro-i5-4590T-2-0GHz-4GB-500GB-Win-8-1-128899/382456635916?hash=item590c31220c:g:63IAAOSwadda8M~1

Or anouther used system. These are tiny, and more than fast enough here.

See I thought this, but there just too big, I wanted it to be like, as small as possible.

i like the idea of one of the dell 3020m's as I can get one for next to nothing and they virtually sip power.
