Looking for open headphones

Hi guys,

I'm just looking around for some new headphones. I currently own a pair of M50s and pair it with a Fiio E10 however I would like to get some open headphones. If I do get a pair then they will most likely be my main set so comfort is key. One reason I would like open headphones is so I can be more aware of my surroundings but without getting speakers.

I listen to metal/rock and some electronic, the M50s have been pretty decent for those. Ideally I really don't want to spend more than £200 (GBP) on them. However I am in no rush to purchase them, still looking. Also I really don't want to replace the E10, but if I do please do suggest what I should get. I believe that it can drive up to 300 ohms but do correct me.

Some I have been looking at are the DT 990 from Beyerdynamic and the Grado SR80i. What would you recommend? I am open to all suggestions. If there is anything I have left out please tell me.

Thanks

Beyers would probably be nice. The Philips X1 is on sale at the moment on Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Fidelio-X1-00-Headphones/dp/B008ZW2T7M/ref=sr_1_41?s=electronics-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1387893584&sr=1-41&keywords=headphones

not really sure the Grado are going to be that good unless you go up to the higher end ones, which the EU don't really get a good deal on so you'll pay through the nose. Lots of choice really though at that price.

Those look really nice and almost half price, plus they have memory foam which is a big plus. How would you say audio compares, some reviews say better than HD 800. They are really tempting to buy especially with that sale. Would you say they are better than the DT 990s?

It's really up to personal preference, but if they're on sale I'd say grab 'em while you can. Personally, I don't really like the simblance of the DT990's, but they're great headphones in all other respects.

I think people are exaggerating saying they are better than the HD800, more of a personal preference I expect because they are a warm, fun sounding headphone rather than the analytical HD800. The X1 are never really £270 it's just Amazon's DFS style sale of "was X now Y" but that is as low as I have seen them, was considering them myself.
