Hi! I've recently mounted a 60" TV onto a plaster wall and I just used the anchors and lag bolts that was provided with the mount. It held and is still standing strong, but I'm wondering if its going to hold as long as I keep it there. I guess my real question is, will regular anchors and lag bolts hold TV's on a plaster wall? Or will it eventually fall off and break onto the floor? (which I am trying to avoid) Thank you for everyone who answers in advance! Thank you!

I wouldn't trust anchors in plaster or drywall only for mounting a TV to a wall. At least part of the mount should be anchored to a stud, preferably more than one stud.

It might and it might not. Are you willing to gamble the cost of the TV and collateral damage (including possible injuries or even death) if it should fail later on? As I said, I wouldn't trust anchors in plaster or drywall only. I'm a senior citizen and handicapped and I could easily punch through drywall with my fist (plaster and lath would be harder and would probably injure my hand). Do you seriously think you can trust the weight of a large TV anchored to anyting other than studs?

Are you saying the bolts are not in a stud? Because I mounted by TV on a plaster wall, but we put the bolts in to the studs, so it will stay strong. In my case its been fine for 5 years.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

not into the studs. I drilled a hole for the anchors then put the bolts in the anchors that i put into the wall

Im fairly sure that the instructions with the mount I have said to put it in to the studs. And only use Wall anchors if your installing in concrete walls. Personally I wouldn't trust it.

interesting topic i never thought about it since around we have brick and concrete walls so i just drill and anchor whereever i want the thing on the wall , welll of course keeping an eye on not hitting any electrical lines.

as to your problem : i wouldnt trust it. tvs are expensive and almost more valuable is the life of any potential child thats playing beneath it while it falls on them. best case it still takes down your coffee table at least. other than pictures id find a stud for everything you want to mount to the wall.

also make sure you get a quality wall mount. i the weight of the tv/monitor is to close to the rated weight of the mount then it will sag over time. or just mount it as close to the wall as possibleto eliminate sag.
