I have a real shit surround sound speaker system , I can't tell you exactly what as I got it ages ago. All I know is it's called Realtek. A bunch of the speakers don't work and I plan on buying a completely different system at some point. I've been having issues with audio for a few months now where the audio goes and I cannot get it back. Here's how it's all connected. I have audio cable connected to my monitor. I have a DP cable going to my monitor as well. When the sound has gone I do the following. Unplug the DP cable and that has "fix" the issue before. I have unplugged the audio cable from my monitor and that has worked. It just seems randomly like it wants to fix itself and sometimes it doesn't. As it stands I have no audio coming from my speakers. However I get audio through my headphones. What the fucks going on, it's getting beyond irritating now.

It seems to me like only one audio output from your pc is possible, and computer somewhat messes whether it should lead into Display port or the other audio you have connected to your monitor.

What I am not really sure from your post is the way you bridge audio from your monitor to your surround system. Do you have the classic audio RCA with several cinches? (6 is minimum for 5.1 audio) Else if the audio that leads into your monitor is one jack/cinch you are not even capable to get 5.1 working (that might cause the issues). Displayport should be enough to carry 1080p + 5.1 audio though
