best gaming headphones

I'm looking to buy some gaming headphones i have a budget of around 300$ what are the best gaming headphones i can buy for that budged. Also wanted to know if it is worth getting headphones with true 7.1 surround sound like the razer tiamat.

7.1 in headsets makes little to no sense at all. The drivers are way to small and there's only a handfull of games that support it. Also stay away from anything that has "gaming" in it's name and especially razer products

 

Check the Over-Ear category, plenty of good headphones in there

I took this advice (minus the Magni Amp as I can't get one just yet - I use a second hand O2 amp which seems fine for now) and am seriously pleased for FPS gaming. They are semi open back with great sound stage and imaging for the job.

You have a budget of $300, so toss the notion of getting a "gaming" headset out of your head; they're overpriced and not sound isn't up to par. I would recommend getting something like an Audio Technica ATH-M40x and a Mod-Mic.

I’d also recommend buying your mic & headphones separately. @wirs suggestion (checking out @SSL ‘s thread) can save one a lot of remorse.
