I recently obtained some free RAM from my uncle, who had a lot of extra hardware. When I put it in my desktop, I booted up the computer, and nothing came up on screen. I put the old RAM back in, and it booted up normally. The "new" RAM is 16gb ddr3 1333mhz(4x4), while the old was 8gb ddr3 1333mhz(4x2). Is the RAM broken, or did I do something wrong?

PS: the RAM is not covered by warranty, I checked each stick indivudually to no success

The RAM in the picture is almost definitely ECC Registered RAM and I'm going to take a stab that your motherboard doesn't support ECC memory.

It does not. Thanks for the info. Would I have any use for ECC memory, other than just selling it?
