PC Shutting Down Randomly

cottontails2
Go to solution Solved by cottontails2,

I forgot to update this thread with what the culprit was and it was bad Windows updates, none of my hardware was the problem.

My PC has been randomly shutting down, but not normally, it turns off as if someone had pulled the plug then turns back on. I've tested different outlets, replaced my surge protector, rma'd my power supply even used my friends and it still happens. I've also monitored temps, but these shut downs usually occur when the system is idle so i'm pretty sure it isn't a temp issue (this PC hasn't been over 80C). The only thing i could think of that could be the culprit is the motherboard, unless Windows can cause something like this. Any thoughts?

My computer hasn't really gone through any changes lately btw, here are the specs:

Motherboard - Asus Maximus Formula IX

CPU - 7700k @4.5GHz with Corsair H110

RAM - 2x8GB 3200MHz GSkill Ripjaws V

GPU - Asus Strix 1080ti OC Edition

PSU - EVGA SuperNova G2 750w

Have you checked inside the PC if all the cables are well placed into their right spots?

When i rma'd my psu, i unplugged everything and re-plugged in everything when my friend lended me his psu during my rma process. So i am pretty sure there are no loose cables and yes they're plugged into the right spots lol.

I just asked xD

Now since every cable is plugged correctly and the PSU is not the one that's causing the fault.. the only thing in my mind is the motherboard.

PS: Have you tried to run your PC with only one GPU and one stick of ram? Maybe there's some conflict between these and the mobo.

I only have one GPU the 1080ti Strix, but i could try just one stick of RAM. Also these shut downs can happen repeatively and then the total opposite where more than 24 hours pass before another shut down occurs, it's really weird.

Well, I would run Memtest, if it doesn't find anything and does stay on you can rule out hardware.

BIOS/UEFI update would be next on my list if it shuts down while in Memtest.

If it is stable in BIOS, then I would blame Windows updates...

It could be a driver issue, some power saving feature not working. Maybe..

Haven't installed the new 1803 update, mostly cause i use a dark theme that doesn't work with it yet, so i will update, run memtest and go from there thanks for your advice. Dreading having to RMA my motherboard hope it's not the problem.
