Friend of mine did it this way, he seemed to have received he's V-Bucks so I think you are as you put is nicely yourself : "In the clear" ;)

So, I have credit on my Microsoft account ( windows store ) and I am a PC gamer. I want to buy v-bucks for fortnite through Microsoft but it is only for Xbox version of the game. If I was to link my epic games account to my Xbox account (i don't have fortnite on Xbox) would the v bucks transfer to my PC account? ( v bucks are meant to be shared cross-platform ) Thanks for any help!

Used to be everywhere in LTT forums, had a break which lasted apparently 1 year LOL. 

Gonna get up againnnn.

People who bought it did say that it sends the V-Bucks to an account linked to your Microsoft account, so am I in the clear?

You should be.

 

I've never had anything to do with purchasing anything in Fortnite(I play only on PC) so I unfortunately wouldn't really know.
