I'm upgrading from a stock Intel heatsink to a new cooler but I can't find my isopropyl alcohol, I've never replaced a heatsink before, I changed a CPU on a laptop though, I want to save myself some hassle and just use a dry paper towel or something but I'm not sure if I can damage my CPU or CPU socket by scrubbing the thermal paste off, obviously I will have to put pressure on the CPU and I'm not sure if that is bad for the CPU, I know heatsinks put alot of pressure on the CPU but they do it in an even manner so it's mostly fine, I'd just like to avoid taking my CPU out and I cannot find my alcohol anywhere, if anyone could suggest something to clean a CPU with that I can get easier that would also be helpful

My CPU is an LGA1150 i7-4790K and I have an MSI Z97 motherboard, the cooler is also a simple clip in like the Intel cooler

A dry paper towel works fine and is what I use most of the time.

Pressure is fine. Coolers put much more pressure on the cpu than you would cleaning it.

Yes, it's fine but that's more likely to break apart than a paper towel or napkin.

That's what I was thinking, I'll try and get some paper towels if not I'll just settle for toilet paper, I live in the country where you can see for miles in any given direction so I usually have to travel for the simplest of things

Tells much about quality of paper :D My napkins are too soft to use for cleaning, toilet paper is good enough as bigger rols tend to be bit too big.
