Hi all, my current 500gb WD external hard drive that I use for backup is full now and I am planning to buy some more drives to expand it, but I was just wondering if I could back up my system to multiple drives?

e.g. Drive 1 runs out of space, continue backup on drive 2.

I would like to do this to save cost, just buy an extra 500gig drive instead of buying a 1tb drive that costs and not using the old drive.

Is this possible with external drives or just internal drives under some sort of RAID array.

Answer would be appreciated!

Thanks.

You could buy an empty NAS I suppose :)

I'm sorta on a budget of about $80 as I need the extra money for other things like drug- I mean camera stuff :)

I would probably take out the drive in the external enclosure and plop it in a raid array, but the HDD in the external enclosure has a proprietary connector on the thing instead of SATA or IDE (yuck).

* Compress files.

* Remove un-needed backups (if using backup software some dates/backups can be removed if you don't need to go that far back of system files)

* Save super old junk to CD/DVD/Blu-Ray.

You said you're on a $80 budget so that's a cheap solution above.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

I'll probably still be over the limit if i compress the data, I am over the drive capacity by 270 gigs (but I don't even think my backup software supports it.

I deleted the backup on the drive but my backup software doesn't even let me start a new backup now because its doesn't have enough space.

I either delete my super old files or zip them up and store them on a USB thumb drive.

I only back up my documents, photos, videos, music and some other miscellaneous items (e.g. game data).

Yeah, sorry.

All I really want to know is it possible to backup my data to more than 1 external drive at a time (e.g. Disk 1 runs out put the rest on Disk 2). If thats not possible I guess ill have to fork out $65 to buy a 1tb internal drive and build on from there. :/
