My son turned 12 yesterday. ND he was asking me to get a new PC, as his old PC couldn't play the games he wanted to play. Currently, he has a Pentium 4 rig with a 720p display. Also, currently he plays CS 1.6 and Minecraft. He wants to play CS go but it runs very slow...like 10-15 fps. So, I want to build him a new system. My budget is around $350-450. I HV no problem in getting old parts...as I know the current GPU mining scenario. I am from Austin, TX . He wants to play newer games that other kids play. As he is currently limited in terms of games that he can actually play.

Along with the system I'll also need a decent 1080p monitor.

Choice of GPU is good and that's about the price for a slightly used 1080p monitor. Going for a prebuilt is a bad idea though, as they are difficult to upgrade. Their power supplies dont have the connector for the HD7770, you cant swap them out because the prebuilts use special connectors, and the motherboard quite often refuses to post with a new grsphics card. You're bidding on your luck to find a prebuilt without these problems.

I HV a masterwatt 550 from my old rig....I think that should be enough to power this system.

Also....I m getting the optiplex 9010 ...the one with i7 3770 ND 8gb ram

Maybe I can cut those connectors from the stock PSU ND solder it to the new one...that can be done...I m an electronics engineer btw

Then you should know how to solder wires and measure voltages to connect the wires right?

Make sure you dont get an SFF case though, those are too thin to hold a full height graphics card.

A half height case. Search for Dell SFF and they will pop up.

For the games he is playing at the moment I would go with a ryzen 3 2200g build with integrated graphics since that should do the job..,giving him a great upgrade path when he gets further into pc gaming. you don't have to deal with selling parts , he could just add a gpu and cpu will be enough to support it.

ps: since ryzen 2200g is unlocked overclocking is always an option...
