HDD doesn't work properly

Go to solution Solved by Lady Fitzgerald,

It's time for a new drive; that one is definitely going south. If you have any data on it, back it up immediately!

Good evening people,

I'm having a problem with my hard drive. So basicly, it started about 3 months ago. I was playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and it froze on me. I thought it was windows 10 and after a certain point I reinstalled windows 10. I had ETS 2 on my hard drive and after the reinstall, I reinstalled ETS 2 on my hard drive again. Steam said it was having a disk write error and I couldn't make sense of it at the time. So I just clicked ''download'' and I got ETS 2 on the hard drive by doing that.

But anyway, ETS 2 froze again on me, so I tried playing a different game. That game was F1 2017 and the game froze on me too. Then I put both games on my external hard drive and they worked flawlessly. Also on my SSD, flawless. So that's when I scanned my hard drive with diskcheck from Windows. It DID NOT find a fault/problem.

But then, I scanned my hard drive with EaseUs by doing a ''disk surface check''. What happened to me was really weird to me, because it read the first sectors normally but then it found a few bad sectors and the reading speed went down bit by bit (from like 1800 mb/s to 1000 mb/s). And at the tab where it says ''bad sectors'', the number went up and down from 0 to 29. All the time it changed to 0, 29, 0, 29. And at a certain pont in the test, the program just froze. I don't know what that is all about, but basicly I don't know what the heck I need to do.

So I guess some sectors aren't good anymore, but how can I fix them if windows wont see them and EaseUs freezes on me.

I'm going to try and run EaseUs when I'm going to sleep. So it can check for like 9 hours when I'm not on my pc.

Any advice what programs or what I should do. I don't think I need to throw the hard drive away because I can use it but sometimes the whole drive just freezes.

Thanks for reading/ and replying

Use a program like crystal disk info, and check smart reports. Specifically relocated sectors, current pending sector count and uncorrectable sector count. Also software for testing depends on hdd you have, for seagate use seatols, for wd drives WD Data LifeGuard. Parted magic is also pretty good.

ThinkPad masterrace

Me thinkpads:

X220, R30, T24, TransNote

First thing I would do is get a new sata cable, and plug it into a different sata port.

Or get a USB adapter and try that.

Also, I would hold off on running the extended test, as it could potentially kill your hard drive outright.

So, replaced sata cable. It did not fix it.

Ran crystaldiskinfo and it GAVE a caution. This is what it says:

Caution [05] Reallocated sectors count : 1964

Caution [C5] Current Pending Sector Count: 27044

Caution [C6] Uncorrectable Sector Count : 27044

So, windows diskcheck still doesnt recognizes there being a fault.

''wmic diskdrive get status'' in windows 10 cmd says my hdd is ''OK''

Clearly it's not. Any idea what I should do further. I might try out HDD regenerator.

thanks already though

As long as anyone is oppressed, no one will be safe and free.

One has to be proactive, not reactive, to ensure the safety of one's data so backup your data! And RAID is NOT a backup!

Yeah, I read that on the internet. Too bad because I need money for a new laptop for my new school. But I can still get a new drive without hurting me too much with that lol. Lucky guy I am.

Time to go to the SSHD's then. Already ordered one.

Thanks for helping out yall
