Success!

So I was getting idle temps around 70C and it topped 105C when I entered a game (Planetside 2) before I exited.

I was sure something fishy was going on. I tried to mine some coins and the temps went off the chart; I think it was then when the stock compound gave way. After watching a tutorial from Tek Syndicate (RazetheW0rld), I decided to disassemble my card and reapply thermal compound.

The stuff I have is Tunis's MX-2, so it's conductive... But I obviously risked it. Now I'm getting 45C idle.

Another computer task checked off the list.

ps... The card is an OEM AMD 6770, if you couldn't infer from my 'sig.

What is your case? Is the card impeded a air flow path? Try leaving the PCI brackets below the GPU open, that will give a place for hot air to flow out. That can improve temperatures a lot in some cases.
