OpenCL not detected/working with RX 580 / Win10

Go to solution Solved by porina,

I gave it another go just now while I was updating other things on the system. This time, I DDU both Intel and nvidia too, even though neither are installed or active. Clean start. Reinstall Adrenalin 18.3.4, OpenCL is back, compute option is present, and all is well :)

I'll file this under "one of those weird computer things".

Anyway, system is 6600k + RX 580, running Win10. All was fine until I stole the GPU to run crossfire on another system, where it ran intel gfx for a bit, and I later put the GPU back in. First time I noticed something was wrong was when boinc failed to detect it. I didn't fix it then as I was running CPU projects. Then I wanted to put mining back on for some quick extra heating as it is cooling off again. Wont start.

The fixes I tried earlier is to install on top the latest Adrenalin driver, didn't help. I also googled for OpenCL software, found something random on AMD's site which looks more like it was for Win8,1, and... that did nothing also.

I haven't tried DDU + fresh install of driver yet, as the system is only remotely accessed and I've ran out of time for one day to get physical.

Gaming system: R7 7800X3D, Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB, Corsair Vengeance 2x 32GB 6000C30, RTX 4070, MSI MPG A850G, Fractal Design North, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Productivity system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, 64GB ram (mixed), RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, random 1080p + 720p displays.
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

It is 1 of 3 things. bios needs update on gpu, Run DDU and reinstall, or your SOL and something prob solder wise has started to break lose

Why would the card bios have anything to do with it? I have 3 of the exact same card bought at the same time. It is only this system that is playing up. It's almost certainly software. It seems to work fine as long as you don't want OpenCL. 3D graphical stuff is normal. I'd put the blame 50/50 on MS or AMD at the moment, as both Win10 and AMD drivers still suck in different ways.

I was just listing the possibilities not saying that is the cause. I would try a system restore to a date before your removed the card while the card is installed. That technically should fix it. worth a try?

I usually disable system restore as it never worked on the rare occasions I tried it in the past, so it is nothing more than a waste of disk space. It has a higher chance of breaking the system than fixing it. I'll go back to my original plan of DDU once I get physical access.

Ok, done DDU, reinstalled driver. Still no OpenCL. Is the driver broke, or is Windows broke...
