Hi Guys,

So I am in two minds about which PC I should build.

My main purpose will be for rendering videos for YouTube and gaming.

I do not have a budget, the builds are at a good price for me, either way.

Software:

- Elgato 4k Capture Card

- Sony Vegas

- Adobe Suite (Premiere, Illustrator & Photoshop)

- xAAA  games at ultra 1080p

So these are my two builds, can I get advice on which one will perform the best for all these tasks.

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor  (£248.00 @ Amazon UK)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! - Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler  (£73.61 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Asus - Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  (£129.16 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: G.Skill - FORTIS 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory  (£185.84 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Samsung - 960 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  (£102.96 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card  (£535.00 @ Aria PC)
Case: Fractal Design - Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case  (£72.50 @ Aria PC)
Power Supply: Corsair - RMx 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£87.32 @ Box Limited)
Total: £1434.39

OR

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 2700 3.2GHz 8-Core Processor  (£255.95 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: Asus - Prime X470-Pro ATX AM4 Motherboard  (£161.99 @ Scan.co.uk)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  (£166.83 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Samsung - 960 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  (£102.96 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card  (£535.00 @ Aria PC)
Case: Fractal Design - Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case  (£72.50 @ Aria PC)
Power Supply: Corsair - RMx 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£87.32 @ Box Limited)
Total: £1382.55

Please guys, let me know if you think Build #1 or #2 will be better for my needs, and any upgrades I can make to make it perform better.

I would say if you want to prioritize gaming over rendering and don't mind possibly waiting a bit longer for renders or the software doesn't benefit from the extra threads and utilizes a couple faster cores then the 8700K would be ideal. If your priority is to render the fastest and the software benefits from cores over single threaded performance then the 2700 would be your best choice.

Personally I think the 2700 build will provide a very solid overall experience

If you were to give a rough estimation, how much longer do you think it would take an 8700k over a Ryzen? If it's not a massive difference like lets say a 1 minute 4k video takes 5 minutes on Ryzen and 6-7 on 8700k - I am okay with going with 8700k in that case, however, if it is like 7 minutes + then I might aswell go for Ryzen.

That's going to be a tough question. What bitrate, compression level, resolution, etc. can all make an impact. I would poke around on Google for a bit, see what Sony Vegas and Adobe benefit the most from and see if you can find anyone else who has experience with both and what their render times were.

If I were to take a guess and, if I remember from some other threads, I believe Adobe and Sony benefits from a few faster cores over extra slightly lower clocked cores, but I would say the render times will probably be within a few minutes of each other.

I'm not comfortable to set up a watercooling loop, I could get an AIO if that is what you're suggesting.

Which would you recommend? corsair h series? Kraken?

I have experience with the kraken x62, beautiful and cools well but its only a 280 rad. Theres the kraken x72, 360 rad and beautiful but pricey.

I already own the RAM and GPU. I can OC my 2400mhz RAM to something higher.

Is an AIO necessary? Temps are pretty good with stock cooler.
