How do you modify a mod?

Can anyone tell me how to modify an existing mod? I have some mods downloaded and they're nice but i would like to add more files to the existing mod for more options. Any suggestions?

Main pc

CPU: AMD RYZEN 2200G || GPU: EVGA GTX 780 || PSU: EVGA 500W  ||  MOBO: MSI B350M MORTAR ||

go into the minecraft folder after you've booted Minecraft with Forge Mods, and you'll see a config file, you'll see a file for almost all the mods, and each of them have stuff you can modify in a text file.
