Planned PC or wait?? 3300$

Go to solution Solved by Lathlaer,

Start building with stuff you know will retain their value and usability even if something new arrives.

I would go for something like this:

1) PSU

2) Storage (you can actually swap those two, doesn't really matter)

3) Case

4) Ram

5) Mobo

6) CPU

7) GPU

That way you start with things you know you will not need to replace and you will be able to revisit the CPU/GPU choices in 2-3 month time (after you buy RAM but before you buy Mobo ofc).

Also you did not include the monitors in your part list but if they are affected by your monthly limitations, you should buy them after the Case and before RAM (or maybe after RAM, doesn't really matter - I don't think we are nearing DDR5 anytime soon), giving you even more time before making the CPU/GPU decision.

As far as the build is concerned, well, I guess the only thing to note so far is that you don't really need 850W to drive one high end GPU with a mainstream-level CPU so you can safely lower the wattage to 600-650 (I wouldn't feel comfortable going lower).

imo were a year away from an 1180ti

Yeah, the ti version comes roughly 8 months after the xx80, so it's a year at least. Or so it was in the last two generations, because the 780ti came crazy fast after 780.

1. Budget & Location

Budget is around R40 000 and if the performance will increase significantly I am prepared to spend more, Location is South Africa and because were limited on choice here I'm adding three websites I will be buying from.

I will be buying the parts month by month, want to build a system for the next gen nvidia xx80ti. Monthly I will be able to use max R5 000.

Also important to mention is that every time I have money parents use me like a bank then if I have no money lecture me that I need to start saving, money for the GTX will be put into a locked savings account.

2. Aim

System will be aimed at 4k gaming but I also want to get into a lot of different programs such as Blender which I often use( New features coming out I would like to use, such as EEVEE ). Music creation software fruity loops, video editing on Adobe after effects, Photoshop and Unity game design. Take Note that it will be as hobbies and not professionally. Not currently. Games just for gaming standard will be ghost recon wildlands.

3. Monitors

Optimally one gaming monitor(1440p) and one work monitor(4K), Sweet spot would be one 1440p monitor that has HDR10 and 144hz, Resolution is the main point here so I'm willing to let go the HDR or 144hz for budget sake.

I also want to game in 4K but would be willing to give it up.

4. Peripherals

OS is taken care of. Peripherals will be RAZER, and I have peripherals I can use currently, Including a 720p monitor, PC comes first.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I currently have a nvidia 9800GT, and with blender eevee coming out it won't be able to support it.

Question :

Should I wait or just build the PC and wait for the card?

And if building piece by piece, In what order?

PC Budget was based on :

build is solid, something to note, there's rumours of Nvidia 1180 and Intel 9700K are to drop later this year, i guess the choice is yours

In all honesty, if you could wait a month, I would.

Some of this is overkill.

You can run 1080 Ti fine on 600w.

Check if it's economical in your country, but 3TB hard drive is usually a better deal than 2 TB.

You don't need a high-end motherboard at all.  Mid-range is fine.

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Audio: Focusrite (Solo, 2nd), SM57, Triton Fethead, AKG c214, Sennheiser HD598's, ATH-M50x, AKG K240, Novation Launchkey

Wishlist: MP S-87, iPad, Yamaha HS5's, more storage

1080ti was just for price example, want to get the next gen xx80ti, but thanks for the advice ;)

9700k, that would be optimal thanks, and the xx80 ti I mentioned in the beginning was the same ones you are mentioning, just used 1080ti as comparison. But noted thanks.

keep in mind the 1180ti wont launch straight away, it will be 1180, Titan (insert whatever) for Turing followed by 1180ti, imo were a year away from an 1180ti

Start building with stuff you know will retain their value and usability even if something new arrives.

I would go for something like this:

1) PSU

2) Storage (you can actually swap those two, doesn't really matter)

3) Case

5) Mobo

6) CPU

7) GPU

That way you start with things you know you will not need to replace and you will be able to revisit the CPU/GPU choices in 2-3 month time (after you buy RAM but before you buy Mobo ofc).
