Gonna build a server

Go to solution Solved by chiller15,

You're going to struggle finding a board of that age. I struggled when looking for a Sandybridge board early last year. I ended up finding one on http://pcupgrade.co.uk/index.asp. Whislst the website doesn't look the slickest, they are genuine and were very helpful when I spoke to them on the phone.

They don't have a category for 1156, but using their search function I was able to find this: http://pcupgrade.co.uk/productdetails.asp?ProductID=8483&categoryid=615. It's an Asus, it's socket 1156 and it's mATX...but it isn't cheap. If that doesn't suit, give them a ring, guy I spoke to was nice enough.

Edit: The board I linked doesn't have any display output, so you'd need an expansion card.

Hey Peeps,

Got an old i5 650 and some DDR3 ram kicking about.  The server isn't going to be doing anything tough, just receiving data from my main Gaming PC and relaying that to an arduino (basically a X-Sim slave PC).  Thing is i need a board for them and ain't got a scooby what chipsets work on first gen Core chips.  I'd rather a mini ITX cause that'll save space under the seat but could stretch to a mATX if needed.  I'm not asking you to find the board for me (unless you know of one going cheap somewhere) Just what chipset to look out for (i know it's 1156 but also know intel reuse they're sockets too)

Thanks

Rik

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

Stop and think a second, something is more than nothing.
