Hi,

do you think that a ...

 

• 35 Watt CPU (with IGP)
• 550 Watt Enermax Digi-Fanless (i own it already - got it for cheap)

• a single Noctua NF-S12A PWM at the back of the chassis https://skinflint.co.uk/noctua-nf-s12a-pwm-a903911.html?hloc=uk
• in a 4U Rack-Server

 

... will be ok in terms of cooling? I want the system to be near "dead silent", so only single fan will be running at about 300-400 rpm. My concerns are: is the "smaller" Macho (the big one does not fit in the chassis) good enough for passive cooling 35 watt CPU and is there a risk that the hot air will get stuck in the chassis with only one fan (the chassis has big openings at the front and back).

Should be, but more fans at lower speeds are quieter.  If you can add a few more, like 3 in the front at low speeds that would work better.

Also, if you can mount the chassis vertically so hot at flows up and out the top.  I do this on a 4U rack I have and it works well.
