[Need help!] 4 Player 'Budget' Gaming PC for my employees - 1080p60, mostly for running emulators

Hey guys, I'm planning to build a budget gaming PC for my colleagues at work.

There are a lot of rules in our building that restrict things we can have, but my idea for having a small gaming computer with 4 USB game pad controllers that we can PAT test is being considered as a good idea.

Either they'll fund it, or more likely I'll be funding it, thus it's "budget".

It will run some PC games, but mostly emulators, due to it being for multiplayer, so think Street Fighter II and Mario Kart titles.

I've been thinking about buying the i3-8350K, but since it's an older CPU I'm wondering how it will be able to deal with the purposes of this build.

Here is my current buy list, although I'm trying to trim down costs to under £300:

unknown.png

I'm looking for a parts list that will give optimal performance in emulation at 1080p60, because that's the kind of TV we have in the lounge.

Here's some examples of what basic stuff it will run:

Snes9X, VisualBoyAdvance, Gens.

But more demandingly:

Project64, Dolphin, Citra, Cemu, PCSX2, RPCS3, to name a few.

I understand most emulators are much more CPU demanding than GPU, so I'm trying to at least get good Project64 performance at 1080p and maybe some Wii Games on Dolphin running smoothly at that resolution.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Your list isn't compatible. 8350k doesn't work on H110. At any rate, no point in going for an unlocked CPU and locked mobo.

Also, the PSU is not very good. Go for something better like a CX450

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

YES YES YES! Get the new Ryzen 2400G. You dont need a 1050ti for emulators.

Actually it is not really old. It is a current gen processor.

Should be able to run Project64. Not sure about dolphin and the performance since I never used it. You will have troubles with RPCS3 though as it is really demanding and you cant even get steady FPS with a 8700k.

Also you only need the 8350K if you plan on overclocking. If you don't plan on doing that make sure to just get the locked version and safe yourself some bucks.

Probably just find yourself an old Dell Dimension on ebay with something like a second or third gen i7, should be fine for emulators.

Desktop: i9 11900k, 32GB DDR4, 4060 Ti 8GB 🙂

Wouldn't it be better to get an 8gb kit instead, isn't that good for Ryzen apu's?

The way you put it, it sounded like you thought I only had 4gb.  It's a 1x8, but it shouldn't impact the performance very much on the 2200g.

Hey, thank  you for that!

Are you sure it won't need a dedicated graphics card? Also, do you think the stock cooler will do fine? I was looking for something effective and quiet, so a big heat sink.

The memory appears to be overclockable, do you think the CPU will be too? I'll need good performance out of it for smoother emulation gameplay.

Yeah not for an emulator.  You can play emulators on old macbooks and macbook airs which have way less processing power than a ryzen apu
