Hyper x cloud stinger extended mic not working

So just got the hyper x stinger and the audio is amazing. I did not test the mic until yesterday and found it was not working. I updated every driver and finally was able to record some audio but the volume was very low. When i put the headset around my neck i noticed that i recorded normal audio. Then i discovered the boom mic is not working rather when i speak into the holes on top of the ear cups i am recording audio. I have attached a pic of the holes. Shall i send them back or is is there a way to fix the extended mick ? Also HOW CAN I RECORD AUDIO BY SPEAKING INTO THE HOLES ON TOP OF EAR CUPS.

i used the splitter cable that came with the headset to make mic and headphones seperate.
