How do you think that computers would evolve if (not taking ridiculous cost into account) the Micro Processor was never invented?  Yes, it is possible, like back in the good ol' days of the Calculator Wars.

If microprocessors were never invented, computers wouldn't have gotten cheaper or smaller with more power.

 

What I'm wondering is what if we went with balanced ternary computers instead of binary? Something about having -1, 0, and 1 sounds pretty interesting.
