So long story short, my WiFi range is pretty crapshoot, mostly because my room is 4 walls away from my router, and it constantly cuts out. Luckily my PC is hooked up to Ethernet. I was wondering if I could set up my computer as a WiFi extender that actually works, considering that the ones for sale on amazon seem to do nothing. Let me know if there is any way of doing this

windows 10 with the anniversary update gives you the option to turn the computer into a wireless hotspot in Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Hotspot

but its kinda fucky and may not work properly

get a better range extender. or switch to using a powerline adapter.

Yes, you can (as long as you have a wifi card on your desktop, of course). That's how I got wifi for my first laptop back in the Windows XP days. Back then you would do it through "internet connection sharing" in the network adapter properties, and as far as I can see it's still the same in Windows 7.

I've done this, but in long run it quite annoying

Setting is changed everytime, I don't know how or why

the worst is it actually will turn off it self within few minutes if nothing is connected to it.

Since you already have ethernet in your room, why not just purchased $10 access point with 4ports ethernet, this way you can have both wifi and your computer is still connected trhough wired.

You need wifi adapter to do it anyway.

would't it be easier to install a switch then from the switch feed your pc and a AP

you would need to keep your pc on all the time to get wifi to work in your original thought

hmm that would probably work better. DO you have suggestions for a switch and an AP?
