FreeSync with Nvidia GPU

Yes, I realize FreeSync and Nvidia GPU’s aren’t compatible. But I have a 144 Hz AOC gaming monitor, but it tells me my display is only 60 Hz. My main question is do I have to have an AMD GPU to be able to use the 144 Hz refresh rate or am I not plugging a cable into my GPU to use it or something?

You can still get 144 Hz with an NVIDIA card. Which monitor, and what type of connection?

I've run a 10 series Nvidia GPU on a Freesync high refresh rate monitor and never had an issue. Use the Nvidia control panel to set a custom resolution for 144 Hz.

What connection are you using? Or just set it to 144hz in windows?

Affaik 1440p 144Hz and higher needs Display Port cables. HDMI can only handle upto 120Hz.

 

If you are certain it is not an issue with the cables or that you re not mistaken about the monitor's capabilities, check:

1) maximum display output capabilities of your graphics card (older cards may not be able to handle it)

2) Ensure some weird setting is not running on your monitor (easiest was to ensure this is to reset to factory defaults)

3) Passsing the above, download latest compatible drivers and use this uninstaller to remove current drivers. Then restart PC and install the new drivers you downloaded.

Is that in GeForce Experience or just the Nvidia settings?

It’s an AOC G2460PF, it’s 1080p and the box and corner of monitor clearly say 144 Hz. In my windows settings it only allows for a 58, 59, and 60 Hz refresh rate though

Go here in the NVIDIA control panel, and set the refresh rate to 144hz. I myself have had no issues running NVIDIA cards on 144Hz Freesync monitors like the MG278

The G2460PF only supports up to 120 Hz over HDMI. Options above 60 Hz won't appear unless you set a custom resolution. To get 144 Hz you need to use DisplayPort or DVI.
