Problems with OCing.

I'm a pretty big noob at this, learning slowly little things off of my Dad.

I've tried overclocking to the supported turbo clock (4.2GHz) but whenever I do attempt, in the Control Panel it shows only 4GB of RAM is available.

 

Current Setup 

CPU - AMD A8 6600K @ 4.0GHz (Stock 3.9)

GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 2048MB

Mobo - GIGABYTE F2A88XM-DS2

RAM - 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (Non-Branded) 

Boot - 120gb Drevo X1 SSD

HDD - 500GB Seagate Pipeline

Case - GameMax Falcon RGB 

 

This computer was built at christmas, parts being used from the older case I used.

So... I've just went into the BIOS, and on my Frequency Settings, an option was set to 100mhz, i was running @ 4.0 and I changed it to 105. I'm running @ approx 4.26 ghz, and it is displaying 8.00GB Ram. I had a friend, who done something with another certain Voltage part, that was 1.500 stock, but he changed it to 1.600v & did some extra settings, which took it to 4. I've activated Turbo Mode, but there is certain outbursts where my PC will suddenly go extremely loud.

Sounds like your temps are getting way too high.

I'm currently talking to another friend over Steam, checking my temps via MSI Afterburner. I've OC'd my GPU too, but only by little. I'm running ATM at 56/57C

memory clock 2150mhz

Would I be better off making the overclock @ 4.2 ghz or is 4.26 fine?

 

ALSO - My CPU cooler isn't the best, it's an AKASA X4 cpu cooler, money wasn't exactly the best but it's decent for £25

While I was ocing, in the bios it said around 40 degrees C, but where can I check it. Is there an option in CPU-Z?

Afterburner can read CPU temps, you need to configure it to do so though.

 

40c at idle is quite high.  My laptop idles lower than that.

Though, i haven't really cleaned it out in a while. My best bet is to break out the canned air, and hoover for fans.
