Google Assistant on Kindle Fire

I know not many people care, but I got the Google assistant to work on a Kindle fire HD 8. The app just appeared on my home screen one day but wasn't able to use it because it wasn't the default assistant. Then I found a forum on XDA developer forum to acitvate "ok Google" on any screen. I did it and then I was able to open the app and use Google assistant. I still can't use the home button to activate Google Assistant but I can use "ok Google" to activate it. I just want to see if anyone else got this.
