So I have a ryzen 1600 and gtx 1060 right now with a corsair rm550x psu. Im planning on upgrading my gpu to a gtx 1080 or maybe the next generation 2080 a few months from now(maybe a 2600x if i can save up enough for it). My question is do i need to get a higher wattage psu when i upgrade? I'm really ignorant when it comes to psus and bought the 550 when it was on sale and because on pcpartpicker the total wattage was less than 550. I know if i added a 1080 it would still be under 550 but ive seen online that you should have 50% more power for you psu ideally? Is that because the gpu has voltage spikes? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Your Ryzen uses up to ~100w (140w for 8 cores, ~50w for lowest ryzen 3 1200)

The video cards use this much ( load aka gaming):

GTX1080Ti = 245W
GTX1080 = 184W
GTX1070Ti = 175W
GTX1070 = 151W
GTX1060 = 122W
GTX1050Ti = 75W

so

+ 1060 = 100w + 125w = 225w

+1080 = 100w + 200w (rounding up) = 300w

add 50-100w for rest of components.

That psu is good, can do the wattage advertised so you have plenty of reserves.
